The lack of keratinized mucosa represents a challenge for the clinician. It may not only lead to esthetic, but also biological problems. This presentation will explain the fate of the keratinized tissue after tooth extraction, describe the peri-implant soft tissues and discuss the scientific evidence that addressess the effect of the lack of keratinized mucosa on the peri-implant health. Further more, clinical cases will be presented to describe the indication and surgical techniques for keratinized tissue augmentation around implants.
Upon completion of this presentation, participants should be able to: 1) describe the peri-implant soft tissues; 2) discuss the benefit of keratinized tissue augmentation; and 3) explain techniques for soft tissue augmentation.
