In the spirit of camaraderie and mentorship, AO’s Young Clinicians Committee (YCC) hosted its 2019 YCC Reception at Cuba Libre Restaurant last night in Washington DC. Each year at the AO Annual Meeting, students and clinicians in the first years of professional practice come together for this popular networking fete that provides AO’s youngest members an opportunity to learn more about each other and the benefits of active membership in the Academy.
The AO Annual Meeting offers a variety of social networking events but the YCC Reception has developed a unique energy of its own, with young attendees coming from around the world to connect and compare experiences among their peer group.
“I’ve been a part of the YCC Committee for several years and through my involvement, I’ve met many people who have been able to offer great advice and professional direction,” remarked Dr. Jose Garcia Montemayor, Chair of the Young Clinicians Committee encourages an early start in AO participation. “When you have a more active involvement in AO, your experience is very different. You build personal connections, not only with peers but with the stars of implant dentistry.”
“As you’re making your start, it can be tough sometime to find like-minded people,” said Vishal Gohel, a second year perio student at the University of North Carolina. “AO’s YCC is very important as it brings together people in the same place in their careers.”
In addition to this YCC social event, the committee also organizes the Young Clinicians’ Luncheon, designed specifically for this generation of clinicians, but open to all registered meeting attendees. This year’s lunch will include two presenters:
- Riad Almasri, DDS presenting: “Immediate Implant Loading With Fixed Full-arch Prosthesis.”
- Simón Pardiñas López, DDS, MS will follow with: “Which is the Best Graft for Bone Augmentation? Is the Use of Growth Factors Effective? An Evidence-based Approach.”
Normally YCC’s annual luncheon features a single presenter. However for 2019, the YCC conducted a social media campaign to select a second speaker. After receiving numerous one minute video proposals via AO’s social media channels from individuals to be considered, Dr. Lopez was selected by the YCC as the second speaker.
The luncheon, happening today beginning at Noon in Room 145AB, is a limited attendance, ticketed event and has been a standing room only function in the past. You will want to make sure you have pre-registered.
